On May 19-20, 2001, 14 Scouts and Scouters went canoeing on the Housitonic River in Connecticut. Needless to say, some people did go swimming. Within 45 seconds of launching, two Scouts were demonstrating their aquatic abilities, without canoe or paddle. Even better was when the troop stopped for lunch, and Keith J. discovered that his food was with his father, on the other side of the river.
The Scouts who attended were Rob C., Keith J., Nick S., Ryan B., Billy D., Steve D., Tim R., and Tom O. Adults included Mr. Johnston, Mr. Buono, Mr. Steenbuck, Mr. Barkey, Mr. Dona, Mr. O'Brien, and Mr. Russell. Special thanks to Mr. Davis for planning and coordinating the event.
After spending the day canoeing at least 12 miles down the river, the Troop retired to the campsite for the night, and dinner. The meal consisted of salad, burgers, and hot dogs. After Thorns and Roses, the troop went to their tents for a well-deserved night's sleep.
On Sunday morning, the Scouts packed up to the smell of bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits. The Troop was soon packed up and on their way home.
