Acquiring the Space Exploration Merit Badge was our mission!  First Class Scouts and above were invited to the U.S. Naval Academy Jamboree held on January 16-18, 2004.  Kings Park Troop 75 Eagle Scout and Midshipman Tim O’Reilly was our sponsor at this event.

Cold!  The temperature was extremely cold the entire weekend, but as scouts we were prepared.  Our parent leadership felt it was just too cold for them to camp out.   As always, scouts are prepared and we easily changed to camp in the warmth of the local Best Western in Annapolis.  We extend our appreciation and thanks to our parent leadership for giving up their weekend and driving Troop 75 Scouts to Maryland.

Classes were held by the Midshipmen teaching Scouts about the history of space exploration, lunar modules and space crafts, to name a few topics.  Our meals were in the Naval Academy’s huge mess hall and the food was out of this world.

As a thank you and to spend some time with our sponsor, Midshipman O’Reilly, we took him out to dinner at Chili's.  All scouts attending completed their mission earning their Space Exploration Merit Badge.
