On August 23rd, Troop 75
undertook something completely different... a kayaking trip and overnight
campout. We kayaked the Peconic River and camped at Indian Island
Campground. After we set up at camp we hit the river. It was a
small group but we were very eager. Although some scouts had never
kayaked before, they quickly got the hang of it. It was a beautiful
day and not too hot. At midday, we beached the kayaks on an island in the
middle of the river in order to have our lunch. After a short break we
were back in the water. We kayaked all the way out into the bay before
heading back. After our day on the river was done, we settled into our
campsite. Before turning in for the night we took a night hike which
seemed very adventurous. We ended the night by toasting marshmallows on
the fire. The next morning we packed up, loaded into the cars and drove
home. Everyone agreed that it was a great trip and a fun way to get
together.
